A comprehensive oral care handbook for a radiant smile

Owning bright, radiant teeth is a wish shared by everyone, to become more confident and attractive in every situation. However, many people still “neglect” oral care, leading to serious diseases. Understanding this issue, HTP Pharma will reveal to you the “secrets” of caring for your oral health comprehensively from A to Z.

According to statistics, up to 90% of adults in Vietnam suffer from diseases related to teeth and gums. This shows that many people's awareness of oral health care has not been given proper and timely attention. To maintain oral health, you should diligently clean your teeth and mouth every day and fully carry out the steps below!

1. Showing you 5 effective ways to care for your teeth

1.1. Brush your teeth twice a day

Morning and night are important moments to carry out oral hygiene in order to remove plaque and harmful bacteria that attack the gums and cause periodontal problems. That is exactly why experts often recommend we diligently clean our teeth in the morning after waking up and at night before going to bed.

Brushing your teeth after waking up

Did you know that after a long night, saliva production slows down. This gives bacteria in the mouth the chance to multiply strongly, causing harm to the gums and tooth enamel. Therefore, brushing your teeth after waking up not only helps clean the mouth but also brings a fresh feeling. At the same time, your teeth are coated with a layer of Fluoride before eating, helping prevent plaque and bacteria in the mouth from getting into your food.

Brushing your teeth before bed

If brushing in the morning helps clean the bacteria produced during sleep, then cleaning the teeth at the end of the day helps remove the bits of food stuck between the teeth throughout the day. According to The Health Site magazine, cleaning your teeth in the evening also reduces the risk of tooth decay and is the optimal measure to prevent oral problems.

1.2. Brush your teeth the right way

To maintain oral health, just being diligent about brushing is not enough; you also need to combine it with brushing the right way in order to completely remove the plaque accumulated deep at the base of the teeth. Conversely, if you brush your teeth the wrong way, it will erode the enamel layers, and over the long term will make teeth sensitive and painful, damage and bleed the gums, and more seriously, cause gum recession at the tooth roots.

Follow the technique below correctly to ensure you are cleaning your teeth the right way:

– Step 1: Place the brush at a 45-degree angle to both the teeth and the gums.

– Step 2: Gently brush in even circular motions or up and down over the outer surface of the teeth, 5 to 10 times per spot, enough to clean off all the food debris stuck to the teeth. Do the same for the inner surface of the teeth.

– Step 3: Continue the even circular motion over the chewing surfaces of the teeth, repeating about 10 times per spot.

1.3. Don't skip cleaning your tongue

Food and bacteria not only hide on the surfaces of the teeth but also accumulate in large amounts on the tongue, leading to persistently unpleasant breath. Therefore, you cannot skip the tongue-cleaning step in your oral care routine. At the same time, you should add tongue-cleaning brushes and dedicated tongue scrapers to have fresh breath and add extra confidence in every conversation.

1.4. Use dental floss

Made from plastic or nylon material, soft, thin and highly elastic, it easily slips into the gaps between the teeth and removes plaque and leftover food even in the hardest spots without widening the gaps and spoiling the look. Therefore, instead of using a bamboo toothpick to remove plaque on the teeth, “make friends” with dental floss to protect your teeth to the fullest.

1.5. Regular dental check-ups

Form the habit of a regular dental check-up every 6 months to have a general examination of your oral health condition and remove plaque and tartar. Accordingly, scientific research has shown that oral condition has a great influence on the body's health and vice versa. If you develop periodontitis, over time it will lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood fat. Therefore, regular dental check-ups will help you detect oral problems early and treat them promptly.

2. Teeth-whitening methods from simple to professional

2.1. Rinsing with apple cider vinegar

Thanks to its acidity, apple cider vinegar has been proven to have an effective whitening effect on yellow stains on the teeth. You can dilute 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with 100ml of water into a solution and rinse your mouth for 2 minutes, then clean as usual. However, since apple cider vinegar contains acid, you can only do this 2 times a week to avoid eroding the tooth enamel.

2.2. Using coconut oil to clean the teeth

Ancient Indians often used coconut oil as an “essence” for versatile cleaning while protecting the mouth effectively. This is because coconut oil contains Lauric Acid, which helps destroy the bacteria and fungi that grow in the mouth. After each use, coconut oil helps reduce “hidden” oral problems such as bad breath, tooth decay and yellowing, giving you the sensation of fresh breath along with bright, radiant teeth.

2.3. Teeth-whitening strips

Whitening teeth with whitening strips has become a beauty “trend,” since you can own bright teeth at home while saving costs. This strip is structured like a transparent adhesive tape, containing inside the whitening ingredient Hydrogen Peroxide, which works on the mechanism of storing on the tooth surface, helping remove yellow stains and giving naturally bright teeth after just 20 days of use.

2.4. Teeth whitening at the dental clinic

This is a modern form of teeth whitening, performed by dentists. Usually, this method uses a whitening agent combined with light from a laser beam shone onto the teeth, helping break the color-bonding fibers and making the teeth brighter than before. After only about 30 minutes of treatment, this method delivers perfect results and takes effect quickly, even for cases of heavily yellowed teeth or discoloration due to Fluorosis,
